Accessibility arrangements at Holly Meadows – updated 2022 (currently under review)

Our building was constructed around 1970 and it is a compact, well-lit and well-organised school. It has wide corridors and doorways that make access easy for those with physical access needs and those who may need to use a wheelchair. Ramps enable entry and exit to the school on all four sides of the building.

We have an accessible toilet in the main building along the central corridor that has plenty of room to manoeuvre. There are two halls, one used mainly for Collective Worship, PE and dining; the second, front hall is also used for dining and group work. Our modular classroom to the rear of the school can be accessed via a wide flat path.  There is an accessible toilet facility within the modular.

The school is sited on a 6-acre field with hard playground available on which the children can play at break times and to do outdoor learning whenever it is appropriate. It is secured by fencing so that access to the road is preventable during school hours.

We have one designated accessible parking space for staff, parents or visitors.  If this space is already occupied we will endeavour to find an accessible space as near to the school building as possible.

We are aware that not all special needs and disabilities are visible and we have set up specific areas in our school as quiet spaces.  These include the library and the thrive room.  Our Mental Health Lead and Thrive Practitioner is Clare Riviere.  She is supported by an additional trained Thrive practitioner.

We seek training and advice from relevant services such as The Virtual School for Sensory Support for pupils who need a modified approach.  We are also supported by The Education Psychology Service (EPSS), Speech and Language Therapy and Play Therapy.

If you have any specific access needs that you would like to discuss, please call the school office on 01485 600241.
