Pupil Premium - June update

What is Pupil Premium Grant?

The Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) is allocated to schools for children of statutory school age from low-income families who are known to be eligible for Free school meals (FSM) in both mainstream and non-mainstream settings : to children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months and to children whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces.

PPG includes pupils eligible for FSM at any point in the last six years (known as the Ever 6 FSM measure).

Schools are free to spend the PPG as they see fit in order to support identified children, however we will be held accountable for how we use the funding to support those children from low-income families.

Success criteria and monitoring

To ensure the effective use of the PPG, we monitor progress made in writing, numeracy and reading by Pupil Premium children compared with progress made by all children.  This information is included in termly reports submitted to the Governing Body. The school has a dedicated Pupil Premium Governor and has appointed a senior teacher to take on the monitoring of Pupil Premium children.

During 2014/15 we have received £36833 PPG. You can see how this is being spent and the impact on Key Stage results up to June 2015 below.

Summary of PPG Spending 2015/2016

The aims of our PPG spending:

  • To support targeted intervention (Thrive and TaMHs) for individuals and small groups to ensure they are emotionally ready to learn.
  • To provide opportunities for individuals to participate in after school clubs.
  • To provide financial support for residential and educational visits when needed.
  • To provide Children’s University membership.
  • To develop speaking and performance skills in order to improve achievement in English and the wider curriculum.
  • To provide additional support and intervention in specific areas of English and Maths.
  • To enhance resources for ICT and English.
  • To closely track assessments of pupils eligible for PPG.

Clubs and Trips


Impact of 2015/2016 Pupil Premium Grant at Holly Meadows 

As a result of the funding, all pupils have had full access to clubs and trips throughout the year, as well as the opportunity to participate in the Children’s University scheme, creating opportunities to try new experiences, acquire new skills and broaden interests.

Specialist Drama teaching has increased motivation and enjoyment, whilst supporting the essential ‘talking’ stage of the development of skills for writing across the curriculum.

Access to TaMHS and Thrive has helped to build pupil confidence, self-esteem and has increased their motivation and a readiness to learn.

Access to Pupil Asset tracking system has allowed for precision monitoring of progress and achievement and helped to identify intervention needs. Carefully planned and resourced intervention and precision teaching for groups and individuals in phonics, reading, spelling and aspects of mathematics have all contributed to progress and achievement for pupil premium pupils.

EYFS: All pupil premium pupils achieved a good level of development.

Year 1: The proportion of pupil premium pupils meeting the expected standard in phonics was above the national figure for other year 1 pupils.

Year 2: The attainment of at least the expected standard in each subject was close to national figures for non-pupil premium pupils.

Year 6: Pupil premium pupils achieved very well in the 2016 tests, with an average scaled score equal to or above the national score for reading and mathematics. All pupil premium pupils achieved at least the expected standard in writing, with 33% achieving greater depth.

Non SEN pupil premium pupils in Years 1, 3, 4 and 5 have progressed at a similar rate to Non SEN/ non -pupil premium pupils in Reading, Writing and Maths.
